I think the reason many choose to go down the road of writing their own content is because we all write our own emails. Heck, if I can do that, how hard could it be to write a story? As you mention in your piece there's a lot more to writing a story then letting someone know you can make the meeting on Wednesday at 2pm. But then there's the other issue of not just crafting content, but also crafting editorial voice which will be in line with the organization's branding, PR, and marketing strategies. You don't want your content to be sales oriented, but you do want it to feed information to fulfill your organization's objectives.
